Zombies Eat People - Don't Be Dinner! (Or An Appetizer...)

Okay, so I *MIGHT* be a little obsessed over zombies. But let's face it, zombies are no less possible than a nuclear attack, especially after the incidents with the dude that ate another dude in Miami. Even the CDC (Center for Disease Control) put out this handy Zombie Preparedness 101 page! Granted, their thinking is that if you're prepared for zombies, you're prepared for damn near anything. But isn't that the point? I mean, if zombies really attack, you have to be prepared for anything, because we have no way of really truly knowing what kind of zombies we'll be dealing with, or how to survive them. We just have to be as prepared as possible, and hope for the best while expecting the worst.

So, my lovely and intrigued readers, why should you worry about zombies? They're fictional, right?

WRONG! I again reference the dude in Miami, and if you never heard of it or saw anything on the news about it, get out from under your rock and check out this video.

***WARNING!!! This video is not intended for children, the faint of heart, anyone currently eating anything, or those easily offended!!

For anyone who still believes zombies are NOT a possibility, go find Mr. Poppo, the victim, and ask his opinion on the incident.

I thankfully have started putting together a Zombie Survival Kit for myself. It's a slow process, picking up pieces to add here and there. When I hit the lottery and can buy a whole bunch of stuff, I'll be stocking up big time. As it sits, though, here's what I'm doing to prepare:

  • In my basement, I have a table with two chairs set up and ready for when we have to take shelter. Also in the basement is a couple of gallons of water, a couple of bottles of water, several cans of tuna, a bag of beef jerkey, cereal bars, fruit cups, and a box of Triscuits to feed the humans. There's also a ziploc bag of dog food, a ziploc bag of cat food, a container for each and a bowl for water. I have plenty of blankets and pillows down there and easy to grab if needed, along with a tarp.
  • I have a "Go Bag" that's ready for me to grab and go if an emergency arises. It's filled with things I may need in an emergency. Candles, a lighter, two flashlights, a bag with all my backup medicines, a bag of toiletries (hey, I'm a girl and not ready to completely resort to barbaric acts to address certain situations...), a roll of TP, wet wipes, a change of clothes for both me and my husband, two bottles of water, a first aid kit, a box cutter, and a bunch of batteries.
  • We have two guns, one is a handgun, the other a rifle. The rifle is down in the basement with a clip beside it, ready to pop in if needed. The handgun we keep near the bed in case we need it to get to safety, with plenty of ammo next to it. It's easy to grab the gun and ammo as we grab the go bag and head out to safety, whether that's the basement or a safe zone.

Clearly, there are still a lot of things we need, and I could really use a better bag for my go bag, but it's a work in progress, and better than what a lot of people have.

Do you have an emergency survival kit or a zombie survival kit? What do you have ready in case of emergency? Share your level of preparedness in the comments!!

She has to find herself before she loses everything and everyone she loves. Which side will win in the battle between true love and dark desire?

Excerpt:
"Do you really love me?" he asked, staring deeply into my eyes as if searching for the answer himself.

I laid my hand over his, our interlocked fingers resting on his knee. "Of course I do, Cryder,” I said. “Why are you asking me that?"

He sat staring at our intertwined fingers for a brief moment, before responding. "I feel as though you are torn. That you are struggling with where your heart lies."

I shook my head. "I'm not struggling, Cryder. I promise."

"Then how do you explain him?" Cryder growled, staring at the open area behind me.

Bristol stood behind Cryder and I.  He had kidnapped me, taken me to a cabin in the woods and tricked me into drinking his blood. I was able to escape but not before our blood had mixed. There was some strange connection between us and the only way to break it was death. He taunted me now, hovering in my dream, leaning against a tree I never remembered creating. His arms were crossed at his chest, and a smile played on his lips as our eyes met. He was dressed to the nines, in a white button up shirt, and navy blue suit matched with a navy tie. A hint of lust bubbled beneath the surface, and I attempted to shove that as far down as possible. Instead I chose the more dominant emotion running through my veins; hatred. I quickly stood into a crouching position. "Bristol,” I growled through clenched teeth. “What the hell are you doing here?”

"We are connected dear. I needed you," Bristol purred.

My stomach clenched, but not with revulsion it was something else that I couldn't pinpoint. Or was I denying the impossible truth? I shoved that thought aside, it was impossible that I could be feeling anything other that anger towards this monster.

Cryder stood to block me from Bristol's view, as his sharp incisors released themselves from his gums. "Leave. She doesn't want you here."

Bristol lifted his body gracefully from the tree and squared his shoulders at Cryder."Let the girl speak for herself you behemoth. I guarantee she will change her mind.,” he sneered.

Blurb:
Five years ago Dylan Gomez had it all. He was an up-and-coming boxer with a loving girlfriend, and his sights were set on the big league. Then he let the hype of the fans inflate his ego—he thought he was invincible. That all changed when an alcohol-fuelled decision altered the course of his life. He lost his girlfriend and then bit-by-bit his life crumbled around him.

Physical therapist, Regan Holloway, has coasted through life for the last five years. She’s been in the same place all that time and most of her things are still in boxes. Agreeing to a “friendly” date with a co-worker, she ends up ringside and face-to-face with the man she’d fled to forget—Dylan.

Dylan’s turning his life around and working his way back up the ranks; he’s got a big fight lined up in thirty days that will be his ticket back into the pros—if he can win. The only thing holding him back is an old shoulder injury and Regan not being by his side.

When Max, Dylan’s manager, convinces Regan to come with them and work on his shoulder for the fight, she knows she needs to keep things professional so that she won’t be hurt again.

In the thirty-day countdown to the big fight, secrets are revealed, their passion is reignited, and the past threatens to haunt their future. On fight day, Dylan and Regan are truly against the ropes.

Excerpt:
Feeling a little lightheaded from the wine, she opened the bathroom door and looked around for a moment to get her bearings. Out of the corner of her eye she saw a red duffle bag, and a shiver traveled down her spine as goose bumps crawled across her skin. Slowly, she turned.

Dylan strode toward her, his big body gliding through the crowd. At his side was his trainer, Max, carrying the red bag. She looked Dylan up and down. He wore loose, black sweatpants and a black t-shirt that hugged the ridges of his chest. Sweat glistened on his face and wet tendrils of black hair
were plastered to his neck. His dark eyes were focused straight ahead.

Was he fighting tonight?
Oh, no. Why hadn't she looked at the fight card?
Because she never thought in a million years that he would fight in a casino located in Indio, California. His fights had always been held in larger cities, like Los Angeles or Las Vegas. Never had he fought in a place like the small Dreaming Casino in the middle of the desert.
He hadn't seen her yet, and she tried to head back into the bathroom, but it seemed her feet wouldn't move. She felt panic well within her as he approached, now about fifteen feet away. His gaze fell on her, and she detected a hitch in his smooth gait. Their eyes locked as he approached, and she felt as though she were about to be swallowed up by the massive man coming toward her.
"So tonight you give it your best, Dylan," Max said as they passed, his eyes on the ground, as usual. The man lived in his head, always planning to stay one step in front of Dylan's opponents. "You just need to remember his right hook."
Dylan's gaze held hers, and she felt a long-forgotten sexual heat rip through her. As he passed, she caught the faint scent of sweat mixed with sandalwood, and she cringed when she recognized the scent of the soap he used. When Dylan had finally moved by her so that he couldn't look at her any longer, she closed her eyes and pinched the bridge of her nose, wondering how she was going to get through the night. The man who had shattered her heart would be in fighting in the ring.
