B is for Blair - Sanctuary's Talented Witch and Chef

Welcome back, A to Z-ers!! Today, we get to meet Blair, another key character of the Daughters of Night series.

In the books, Blair is a highly trained and crazy talented witch-a master of his trade, in fact. And the boy can COOK! In fact, it's his favorite thing to do in his downtime. He even insisted on a custom chef's kitchen when the home of Sanctuary was rebuilt and relocated.

Blair's past, however, is a bit more troubled. Born in 1964 to as Travis Blair Smith, Jr. to Michelle and Travis Smith, Sr., Blair was raised in an aristocratic family in Chicago. His parents were neglectful, leaving Blair to be raised by the nanny. Until he was seven, he seemed to be a normal child, but then his powers started showing up and suddenly he was being bullied everywhere he went. Eventually, Blair became too afraid to leave the house, and and started skipping school. His parents, upon receiving his report card with horrible grades, punished him. His only ally was the nanny, who encouraged Blair to continue practicing his magic. She gave him books to read and worked with him on spells and conjuring, in hopes that he would one day be able to defend himself.

The years dragged on, and eventually, at the tender age of sixteen, Blair's secret attraction to the same sex came out, and his torment began again, only this time, it was far more serious and painful.

One day at school, a group of jocks began picking on him during lunch, throwing rocks at his head and chasing him into a corner, trapping him in a semicircle of bulky teenage boys out for his blood. They called him the most horrible names, and started throwing punches. Out of fear and instinct for survival, he cast a spell to paralyze his tormentors. Needless to say, he was taken into custody and spent a good chunk of time (until he was eighteen) in a mental institution.

When he was finally released, he was recruited by Quinn, and joined Sanctuary. He studied harder, and became the most talented witch in Sanctuary. At least, until Carmen came along.

I hope you enjoyed getting to know a little backstory to Blair. Come back tomorrow, and find out what the letter C brings us!!

  3. Ewww, little creepy for my tastes. I like fluff, lol. Actually I do like fluff to lighten the mood of trouble we hear about day to day; but would imagine teens are going to really like your book It's quite descriptive!

    1. Hehe, I understand. There are a lot more happy moments in the books, these posts are just giving descriptions about how they became the strong and amazing people they are now. And everyone has their taste preferences, I know this may not be everyone's cup of tea. ;) I appreciate the honesty, though!
